CENTER FOR TECHNOLOGIES
The main goal of the Center for Technologies is to create and develop an environment for conducting innovative scientific research, with the goal of industrial implementation of new biotechnologies in both Bulgarian and international companies. Center for Technologies aims to:
– Stimulate the development of scientific research in the fields of molecular biotechnology, environmental technologies, and environmental ICTs, focusing on their practical application and multiplication in real-world practice to achieve economic outcomes;
– Create an appropriate environment for transferring the results of innovative scientific research into the working economy;
– Establish conditions for cooperation and collaboration among specialists from different fields;
– Build dynamic research teams of qualified scientists.
CULTIVATING RESOURCES AND RELATIONSHIPS
Collaboration with industry partners can foster intellectual exchange, promote broad recognition of your efforts, and attract financial support for your innovations. Even if your research is considered “early stage,” our accelerator programs can bridge the gap and help you demonstrate the value of your work.
CORPORATE PARTNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATION
Corporate partners can support your research, helping you advance your mutually beneficial work in a given field, or form strategic alliances at the university level to make significant progress in a broader area. These partnerships can support the early-stage development of your ideas and technologies toward future licensing, add value to the funded technology and enrich your work with new perspectives. Most importantly, you can use these benefits and still retain control over your projects.
WHY WORK WITH THE TTO TEAM?
With our market insight, business contacts, and ability to cultivate and maintain productive industry relationships, we can help you build fruitful collaborations, even when commercialization of your projects lies far ahead. We provide continuous professional support throughout the process of developing proposals, identifying, and engaging the right corporate partners. The legally sound agreements we create are designed to protect both parties without coming into conflict with the academic freedom and values.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Internationally, intellectual property is understood to include industrial property, copyright, and related rights. It covers the products of human intellect. The goal of IP protection is to encourage innovators to create, invent, and discover new knowledge and information. From the economical point of view, since scientific knowledge and new ideas are public goods, a lack of protection would suppress innovation incentives and keep investment in research and development below optimal levels. Innovators often refrain from registering patents due to the complexity of the procedures, high fees, and—as is still the case in Bulgaria and other Eastern European countries—the inability of enforcement institutions to adequately protect granted IP rights. However, many do not realize that, beyond patents, there are alternative forms of protection that can offer nearly equivalent safeguards. The Technology Transfer Office has developed expertise in intellectual property protection. Together with the “IP Regulations at Paisii Hilendarski University,” this activity aims to significantly improve the protection of intellectual property, the funding, and the management of the innovation process among innovative firms and university researchers.
